Once again the latest printer driver posted on Canon's site for the Selhpy 900 (or 910) does not install in Yosemite. The same has already occurred at the release of Mavericks. Somehow Canon always manages to hard-code not just the base=oldest OS version into their driver installation applications, but also the latest version in which the driver is supposed to work.
Printer Driver For Canon SELPHY CP720 – Compared to the Canon PIXMA mini 260, which is likewise a portable postcard printer, the CP720 is half the size and less than half the weight. As soon as you include the paper tray and leave enough space for the paper to exit and return to the back of the printer, the CP720 driver footprint is in fact bigger that the mini 260’s. Eventually they usually come up with an updated driver, but that may take anything from several months to the time when a newer version of the printer is released, which may be never. Anyone else having the same issue, and a solution? I recall that with Mavericks there was a hack for the driver installation procedure tricking it to believe it was running under Mountain Lion, or getting rid of the '10.8' restriction, but I can't find it any longer. And of course I can't find such a solution for Yosemite. In the meantime I found a description of the hack required for Mountain Lion, which I guess / hope will also work for Yosemite: (German).
Unfortunately, the later drivers do no longer come as multi-file package (.mpkg) but as simple binary one-file packages (.pkg) which cannot be opened in the described way to just hack the version check. So the issue remains unsolved, and I am afraid I might not find a working driver for my Selphy 900 until Canon releases a (compatible) Selphy 920 or so which may not be that likely after all. I am experiencing the same nightmare with my trusty Canon i960 Printer AND my Canonscan 8400F scanner.
WHY (other than to sell you another printer/scanner) would Canon drop support for these???? It's a vanilla printer and scanner!!!
But they are not officially supported under Yosemite I did install their 'Canon IJ Drivers' available for current printers, and the printer prints Once but then it prints no more, until AFTER I re-install drivers again, to again, print once and then no more. I will try ANYTHING Thank you. I am experiencing the same nightmare with my trusty Canon i960 Printer AND my Canonscan 8400F scanner. I will try ANYTHING Thank you This is probably worse that my experience, but mine is simply absurd. The drivers would work perfectly fine, they just refuse to install because if a stupid version check on installation (e.g. 'install if OS version is 10.9' rather than 'install if OS version is 10.9 or higher'). And this happens with EVERY SINGLE NEW RELEASE of Mac OS X.
EVERY FRICKING SINGLE TIME the old driver won't install although they work perfectly (once you get them to install through crazy hacks and whatever). Add me to the list of people with Yosemite/Canon printer problems. I have an MP495 which had been working great under Mavericks and also under Yosemite (!), that is, until I changed my WiFi's SSID. After moving all my devices to the new SSID, the MacBook complained that the printer was offline (it wasn't).
I thought it would be as simple as removing and re-adding the printer- big mistake! Once I removed the printer, I could not get OS X to see it again via Bonjour. I resorted to downloading Canon's IJ drivers which (I think) made the printer discoverable in the printer list (takes a while to detect and shows as Canon IJ Network), but I have the same problem as Philotech: the printer only works right after the printer has been added. Additionally, OS X no longer realizes that it's a multifunction printer with scanning capabilities. Hello, I have created a Canon Selphy installer package for OS X Yosemite, based on the Mavericks driver.
Works fine with me. Shame on Canon.
Christian WOW!!! I actually thought this was the issue with the Canon i960, where the 'drivers are not signed' to work with Yosemite. After all, this printer is a 'vanilla' USB printer. And the same with the scanner. I would GLADLY make a $$$ donation to you Chris, If you could do the same for the Canon i960 AND my Canon Canoscan 8400F scanner. I know I can buy a current combo printer, supported under Yosemite, BUT it's the Principle. I would PREFER to NOT give the $$$$ to Canon and instead donate to your effort.

Bruce In your case, simply go to: System Settings / Security & Privacy / General Under: 'Allow apps downloaded from anywhere' Make sure 'Anywhere' is selected, then try again It's even easier than this, and that's a cute little feature of OS X: If you try to install something that gets blocked due to the App Store installation settings (e.g. App Store and identified developers only), that preferences pane knows of the failed install and allows to to specificly install that single app without changing the settings in general.
So that's what I do. Leave the rather safe settings alone, try to install apps from unidentified developers nevertheless and then to the prefpane and allow that blocked install. Works like a charm. I'm not sure what you're trying to say there, Philotech, but the easiest way to install an app from an unidentified developer without changing the security settings is by simply right clicking on the app icon and then selecting the 'Open' command. After confirming the dialog box, that app will open normally from then on. This thread made me check my Selphy 900: as the driver was already installed under a Mavericks, my Selphy was still available in the Control Panels printer list. But sadly, any attempt to print something results in an error message (can't open printer, error number -9781).
I removed the printer, updated the driver by using the driver package made available by ceo77, and finally re-adding the printer. That didn't help. Does anybody have an idea to get my printer working again under Yosemite? Thought I'd post an Update to my problem, in case anybody is still stuck. The NET: I got my Canon i960 Printer AND my CanonScan 8400F (both circa 2006) to work Perfectly under Yosemite, and across my Wireless Network, as a shared Printer to my other Yosemite and Mavericks iMac's and Mac Mini's. This is How I did it: Please perform the following to remove the currently installed drivers: (If any items are not listed, move on to the next step.) 1.

Seems like a lot but it will work. Used this with my Canon Selphy CP810 and otworks perfectly.
Canon site says they will be writing a ne driver 'later in 2015'. What use is that for those of us who need to use the printer now?! Thanks Christian!! Yes, that's insulting. In particular when taking into account that the current driver works perfectly with Yosemite, and 'writing a new driver' means changing the stupid version check in the installer.
Unforunately, that's Canon's standard behaviour. If you happen to own a DSLR camera, you will know that the required apps for those (image transfer to Mac) also won't install on the (one or two) latest OS X releases. Again just because of the installer. So if you don't upgrade your OS but rather re-install, you can't use your camera any longer. Full previous thread title: Canon Printer Driver in Yosemite (Selphy 900) won't install' I know this thread is old, but as I've started it.
Thanks to ceo77 and using his modified version, the driver meant for the Selphy 910 indeed installs under Yosemite. Unfortunately, printing via WLAN only prduces an error (code: -9781) which I cannot resolve. Apparently (haven't tried, but many others who have posted elsewhere) printing via USB does work. I've also tried to create a WLAN connection using the Selphy's ad-hoc mode (which works fine for mobile devices), but even though my Mac connects to the Selphy's network just fine, it doesn't find the printer.
Just for everybody to have a complete picture on Canon's support: The situation under Windows is no better. The Win8.x drivers for the CP910 don't recognize the CP900, and the drivers for the CP900 are not sanctioned by Canon for Win 8.x and therefore won't install. The completely new driver for the new Selphy CP1000 (it's version 1.0) only provide for USB connection because the CP1000 doesn't have WLAN.
I have had some rather intense email exchange with Canon support on the matter, but of course they were completely unhelpful (what should they do if there are no drivers.). And of course they had to strongly advise against using any kind of hacked drivers or even drivers intended for a different model. I'm a bit staggered that the latest model CP1000 doesn't have WLAN any more. It's pretty much a big step back, and I believe identical to the CP800/820, apart from the additional Compact Flash slot (which would have made a lot more sense 5 years ago than now when those cards are ancient and hardly used at all). Maybe they do have issues with the WLAN in the Selphy series after all. I tried to install this driver to get my CP900 working to no avail. I deleted every possible Canon file, extension, etc., and when I go to install this driver it tells me 'Selphy CP series driver can't be installed on this disk.
A newer version of the driver is already installed.' LIke I said, I have deleted every Canon file I can find in LibraryPrinters; ApplicationsCanon; SystemPrinters. I have restarted my Mac Mini many times including emptying the trash to be sure the files are deleted. Super frustrated! Any ideas/pointers that I'm overlooking are welcomed.

Once you have installed the latest V6.5 driver, you can't go back to Christian's hacked driver. I also tried by deleting each and any file or folder relating to the driver, but to no avail. What makes things worse is that Canon even provides the V6.5 driver for the CP900 and Yosemite ) and it does isntall just fine, but still doesn't print via WLAN. Just revert to my favourite thread: What's totally ridiculous is that Canon has just this year (2016) released a new Selphy printer (CP1200) which, apart from the design, is identical to the previous models (1000, 910, 900, 820, 810, 800, and a few more I guess).
And even though there are tons of How-to's on the net showing how to get the Win8.1 drivers to work on Win10 for the CP910, the 900, and probably the other models too, there is NO Win10 driver available for the CP1200! Just to repeat: Canon releases a printer in January 2016 which does not support Windows 10!! Canon really has the worst driver support of all manufacturers I've ever had to deal with. Note: On the support site, Canon states that Win10 drivers will be made available 'after April 2016' for the later of the above models (with the notable exception of the CP900 which I have and which works just fine under Windows 10 installing the 8.1 driver as described in the video how-to at ). But the list DOES NOT include the CP1200, nor can you even select Win10 from the list of operating systems for this printer. And another note: The list of printers which may support Win10 in the future does not include the CP900 (which, by chance, I own). But of course even now it's easy to get it working in Win10 after installing the 8.1 driver as described in the video how-to at ).
